About the compound:

EGCG is one of the catechins, a type of natural phenol and antioxidant. Its structure consists of two aromatic rings (known as the A and B rings) with a dihydroxy structure in the B ring, and a gallate ester attached at the 3-position of the C ring, which is responsible for most of its antioxidant activity. EGCG is primarily found in green tea.
